BOOK TOUR: THE AMATEUR GOURMET

I was terribly excited when Adam Roberts (The Amateur Gourmet) contacted me recently. He asked me if I'd act as a host for his virtual book tour when it comes to Los Angeles. I immediately started cleaning the house and getting ready for company.

What I should have done was pay closer attention.

As it turns out, Adam is just as amiable and easy-going as his writings. I offered my apologies to him for never completing the requested online interview. Instead I simply opted to enjoy the remainder of the pleasant day in the company of his book. Chapter One urges to "Start with Spaghetti" and that's just what we did. I followed the recipe for Basic Tomato Sauce (reprinted from The Babboo Cookbook) and in less than one hour we sat down to a delicious dinner.

I was terribly sad to wave goodbye, but my literary friend was soon off to his next stop on the tour. Oh and Adam, I need to get your mailing address because your book jetted off quickly and left behind the gift he bought for you:

PICKLED PINK

“Picasso had his pink period and his blue period. I am in my blonde period right now.”

-Hugh Hefner

"Gimme pink!"

-Me (Kevin)

What's not to love about these? There is nothing dull about them! They possess a bright, cheery, almost candy-like color. Bite into one and enjoy the healthy snap and crunch followed by a mouth awakening jolt of sweet and sour.

Introducing thick rings of onions into a pungent bath of vinegar, sugar and spices consummates a marriage of passionate flavors. The finished product is so addictive that I've happily munched my way through half of my batch before the sun has set on their second day! The talented Matt introduced the recipe and wrote a far more interesting post than I shall even attempt here. I suggest you take a field trip over to Matt's site and let him share his love of all things brined with you. While you are out, stop and pick up some gorgeous red onions! As long am I'm nudging you there let me urge you to make a double batch. Just trust me on this one!
