Yes, I'm back. Thank you to everyone who left such nice comments while the Acme kitchen was closed. Mother Nature (Her High Priestess of Bitchiness) stepped in and sent one of those nasty black clouds to rain on our family, but the sun is nurturing us once again.
My dear grandmother is 94 years old. She's an amazingly young woman for her age and has never suffered any serious health issues in her life. She travels around the U.S. by bus, plane, and train and even cruises to Hawaii, the Caribbean and through the Panama Canal. Over the last few months she has begun to have problems with her left wrist and hand.
And then she took a fall.
A doctor examined her and determined nothing was broken but he sent her to the hospital as a precaution. They gave her a CAT scan and we learned immediately that the indomitable Auntie Mame had a rather large tumor growing on the right side of her brain. This explained the problem with her left hand, and also the reason for her fall. Her doctor said that she had two options; she could do nothing and would probably become more homebound and eventually bed-ridden due to loss of mobility on the left side of her body. The second option was a craniotomy.
Frankly, both options scared the hell out of us but fearless grandma didn't hesitate in her response. She said, "Do it!"
Just barely twenty-four hours after surgery, she was sitting up in bed and eating a hamburger. She was smiling and joking and asking for more mustard. I don't know what was in that hamburger, but she is getting better each day and making some of the 80-something-year-old "youngsters" in the recovery facility look feeble in comparison. It looks like she's doing just fine, and I've decided to start eating more hamburgers.
I'm ready to cook again so consider this your warning. I've also purchased a new Canon camera (a boy needs a little retail therapy y'all) so perhaps my future shots won't all tend to look like dog food. Also, Acme Instant Ingredients will indeed happen! Watch your email in-box for information, your partner, and a new timeframe to accomplish this task.
Just like candy. So why don't you join the thousands of happy peppy people and take a chance with Acme Instant Ingredients tomorrow.

This makes me SOOOO Happy on so many levels.
One, I'm SO glad she's doing well!
Second, we can be camera nerds.
YAY!
ALL our best to her and to you guys as well!
That's fantastic news! I'm totally going to start eating more hamburgers too!
What a gal! You come from sturdy stock, my dear. Good genes.
Sounds like a heck of a woman and you are a lucky guy to have her in your life (and her genes in your body!) Welcome back, Kevin. We missed you. (P.S. What kind of camera?)
Welcome back Kevin, and like Christine said, I think you are very lucky to have such a lovely grandmother! Please send our best wishes to her (and you must tell us what camera you've got :)) kxx
Thank you everyone for the nice words. I'm glad that it was a short absence and that my grandmother is doing well. I purchased a Canon s3 IS. Nothing too sophisticated but it runs circles around the old camera. I'm a touch technology challenged so I have to keep things simple. Just ask Ed about my experience with the TV and TiVo remote controls...
Glad to hear that she approves of hamburgers as the perfect healing food. She should write a diet plan.
"Chapter two - Fries!"
Kevin,
SO glad you're back and intact. And glad to hear that your grandmother is recovering well. She sounds like she's an amazing human being.
Have you gotten her hooked on reading your blog yet?
Or even better, can you convince her to start her own? (-;
Kevin you are one lucky guy in more ways than one ;) Longevity and burgers there is a story here I tell ya. I too have joined the camera nerd club.....I have taken over husbands Canon. Glad you're back!
Awww could she be the cutest grandma EVER?! I'm so happy it worked out so well, she's the kind of woman I strive to be - strong and sure of herself. =)
Glad you are back, you were missed. =)
Oh and I've got the S2 IS and I love it.. lovvveeee itttt! It's pretty easy to use and only needs just enough techie knowledge to make yourself feel like you could go on to build the next super computer - in like an hour.
'kay it's not THAT easy, but if you are like me, once you get the hang of all the buttons you feel pretty good. =)
xoxo
YAY! So glad you're back and cheers to your grandma!
Wow- I'll bet she's hella fun out on the town! Glad she's doing better.
Have fun with your new toy!
